Trust & Brand Signals

Authority Signals · Deliberately down-weighted

What this check reads on your page

Who publishes this page, and could a reader reach them: that is the pair of questions this factor asks. It looks for links to a privacy policy, terms, and a legal, imprint, cookie, accessibility or disclosure page; for a link to an about, company or team page; and for a publisher declared in JSON-LD as an Organization, Person or similar type, counting how many identity properties that node carries out of name, url, logo, sameAs, contactPoint, address, foundingDate and description. It then checks for a contact route, links to distinct social profiles, and a postal address, tel: or mailto: link. Third-party evidence is graded last and lightly: a testimonial block or an attributed quote, a rating in markup or schema, and trust badges.

Our verdict on the evidence

Deliberately down-weighted On-page trust badges are untested as a class; the evidenced trust channel is off-site reviews. Retained for publisher accountability (who publishes this, declared where a machine can read it) and for basic legitimacy signals such as contact routes and published policies.

Cross-engine citation-driver study, deep vs shallow content and freshness gatekeeping (arXiv 2605.25517)

The score can find a privacy link, an address and an Organization node; it cannot tell whether the company behind them is any good, and it does not read the reviews that carry that evidence, because they live on other sites. What it catches is the page an engine cannot attribute: no publisher declared, no route to a person, no policy linked. An answer engine that has to say who is claiming something will pass over a page that never says.

How to fix it

  • Link a privacy policy, terms and an imprint or legal page from the footer of every page.
  • Add an about page that says who runs the site, and link it site-wide.
  • Declare the publisher in Organization JSON-LD with name, url, logo, sameAs, contactPoint and address.
  • Put a contact route on the page: a mailto: or tel: link, a postal address, or a link to a contact page.
  • Link your own profiles on at least three social platforms.
